What does the operation of the Lirene Science Laboratory consists in?

The Lirene Science Laboratory is a place where scientific and technological concepts of cosmetic products are created. Analysis of reports provided by researchers from all over the world and conduction of our own research enables experts from our Laboratory to set trends in skin care and to introduce new scientific solutions to cosmetology.

Who are the experts of Lirene?

They are technologists, as well as biology and chemistry specialists.

What are the achievements so far the Laboratory is most proud of?

For 3 years the In-Vitro research lab in the Dr Irena Eris Scientific Research Centre has assessed irritant potential of finished cosmetics on epidermis model in In-Vitro tests.
The test was approved by European Union as one of the alternative to animal testing. Tests, which half a century ago were carried out on animals, are now being run on tissue models. They became our company’s standard. I’m particularly proud of them, since we are the only Polish cosmetic company and one of the few in the world to test safety of the cosmetics on tissue models.

Are Lirene cosmetics tested on animals?

The Dr Irena Eris Skin Care Institute does not test, has never tested or commissioned any testing on animals. This applies to cosmetics as well as their ingredients. Testing cosmetic products on animals has been forbidden by law in the European Union since 11th September 2004. Since 11th March 2009 also animal testing of cosmetic ingredients has been forbidden in the European Union. This year in March regulations forbidding introducing into the market cosmetics containing ingredients tested on animals were introduced.

Which ingredients of cosmetics evoke the biggest controversies?

Nowadays presence of parabens in cosmetics concerns consumers the most. Parabens are the most researched preservatives applied in cosmetics. It should be mentioned that they are well tolerated by the skin. Some research suggest that there is a connection between parabens and breast cancer or hormone imbalance. Especially media often make such a research a bigger story. It is however worth noticing that there are many reliable scientific studies that exclude this connection. Scientific Committee on Consumer Products of European Commission has repeatedly run detailed analysis on application of parabens. Taking into account our current knowledge on parabens and reliable analysis and interpretation of scientific research results, there are no reasons to worry about their application.

What are the newest trends in global cosmetology?

A new trend in skin care, which in my opinion will not go away so quickly, may be proteins acting as growth factors. On the market, there are only few substances that can imitate the tissue growth factors or influence the particular metabolic pathways in the skin.

What are the next challenges that Laboratory wants to face?

Cosmetology constantly develops. It is an interdisciplinary branch that combines biology, chemistry, pharmacy and even medicine and physics. Development of basic disciplines gives us knowledge on skin care and, at the same time, it enables us to produce effective cosmetics that are safe for the skin. The progress observed in global cosmetology is very intense. We want not only to keep up with it, but sometimes also to set new trends.
Moreover, we are still trying to discover the elixir of youth :)

What guarantees the effectiveness of Lirene cosmetics?

All the effects of our products are supported by reliable scientific research. The effectiveness is assessed by means of research instruments and measurement systems as well by subjective opinions of volunteers.

If you were to give only one beauty tip concerning daily skin care, what would it be?

Regularity is extremely important for skin care, and we tend to forget about it. Regular application of cosmetics is crucial for the skin to be in good condition and to look nice. We neglect the skin on feet and the body and we begin to moisturize it only in spring, when we don’t cover the whole body with clothes.

What do you do to look nice?

Regularity, precise cleansing and … the smile.
